Why Is iphone worth the Wait ?

Because it can cure AIDS and give birth to pupples ! Well, we wish it did. As it stands, the iphone is worth the wait because it's the phone to own if you want to get noticed. Apart from the sleek 'n' slim style statement it makes, what sets it apart is the no-buttons-only-touch concept. The iphone is not just a phone but also an iPod. And it's not just a phone and an iPod but also an Internet communication devcice. That's three reasons why you should have one!.
For a first-time user, getting a grip of the iPhone is not difficlt. But its shiny metallic scratch-resistant body is a little slippery so if you're the sort whose Nokia has lived to tell the tale of 10 drops and counting, your iPhone experience could be short-lived.
But this baby is so cute you will be loathe to let it bounce. As you finger it - yes, it is a rather sensuous experience - what will undoubtedly impress you is its multi-touch sensing. It knows what you want, when you want. All you have to do is tap on the icons displayed on the screen, flick up and down with your finger to scrollthe contacts, flip through photo albums as though they were pages......Just like almost everything Apple makes, the iPhone is a piece of design genius.

A Man Who Can Fly

Johan Lorbeer is a German street performer. He became famous in the past few years because of his 'Still-Life' performances, which took place in the public area. His installations includes 'Proletarian Mural' and 'Tarzan', which are famous in Germany . Several of these performances feature Lorbeer in an apparently impossible position.

With his still-life performances, this German artist seems to unhinge the laws of gravity. For hours on time, he remains, as a living work of art, in physically impossible positions. Elevated or reduced to the state of a sculpture, he interacts with the bewildered and irritated audience, whose appetite for communication rises as time goes by, often culminating in the wish to touch the artist in his superhuman, angelic appearance in order to participate in his abilities.

Windows 7 (formerly known as Blackcomb and Vienna) is the working name for the next major version of Microsoft Windows as the successor of Windows Vista. Microsoft has announced that it is "scoping Windows 7 development to a three-year timeframe", and that "the specific release date will ultimately be determined by meeting the quality bar." Windows 7 is expected to be released sometime in 2010. The client versions of Windows 7 will ship in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. A server variant, codenamed Windows Server 7, is also under development.

Microsoft is maintaining a policy of silence concerning discussion of plans and aspirations for Windows 7 as they focus on the release and marketing of Windows Vista, stating that Microsoft does not want to promise features and then fail to deliver, as happened with Windows Vista Ultimate, though some early details of various core operating system features have emerged. As a result, little is known about the feature set, though public presentations from company officials have disseminated information about some features. Leaked information from people to whom Milestone 1 (M1) of Windows 7 was shipped also provides some insight into the feature set.

Inside Windows 7 What we Know So Far

Virtual machines for ‘legacy’ software

There have also been indications that Windows 7 will use virtualisation to run any software that hasn’t been specifically written for Windows 7 or using Microsoft’s .NET language. 7‘s use of virtual machines to run these ‘legacy’ applications was leaked on Microsoft’s own Channel 9 community forum in July in a (quickly removed!) thread. While it's a novel approach for Microsoft to take, it's certainly not a first. Apple migrated users from its Mac OS Classic environment to Mac OS X by loading the classic OS in a virtual machine of sorts if users needed to run one of their old applications. At this early stage, no-one can guarantee that any feature will definitely be on the Windows 7 roster. After all, at the equivalent stage of Vista’s evolution Microsoft was talking about everything from the WinFS database storage system to all manner of ‘blue sky’ notions, all of which were dropped before Longhorn hit its first beta release. Sinofsky’s track record paints him as more of a realist, however, and OS-based virtualisation makes sense for plenty of reasons. Microsoft already has the technology in Hyper-V, the hypervisor-based virtualisation system designed for Windows Server 2008. And hardware won’t be an issue: by the time Windows 7 arrives circa 2010, quad-core will have replaced dual-core as the mainstream, with substantially larger cache including big slabs of Level 3 cache.
L3 already exists in AMD’s ‘Barcelona’ architecture and have been hinted for Intel’s ‘Nehalem’, which will succeed the current Core micro-architecture in the second half of 2008. (In fact, if Windows 7 breaks cover towards the end of 2010 it’ll be accompanied by Intel’s post-Nehalem Core microarchitecture revision, codenamed Gesher.)

Also, considering that Nehalem will debut with eight cores in a single die, there’s no reason we couldn’t see a string of single cores each being set aside for running a VM, with a flash drive used to hold and launch the virtual machine software in order to dramatically boost session speed, especially during the ‘transition states’ of startup and shutdown which represent so much of the VM overhead.

PCs will also sport obscene amounts of memory: 4GB will likely be equivalent to today’s ‘entry level’ of 1GB, with flash drives used in concert with hard drives to actively store files rather than just be a shot-term cache.

Kernel knowledge

Eye candy, begone: MinWin is so lean that even the Windows flag on the splash screen is rendered using ASCII Eye candy, begone: MinWin is so lean that even the Windows flag on the splash screen is rendered using ASCII .We do know that the next generation of Windows will be built around a stripped-back ‘microkernel’ codenamed MinWin. As previously reported, MinWin has been described as “the Windows 7 source-code base”. MinWin is currently an internal project to strip back the NT kernel to the barest of bare metal, but will be used “to build all the products based on Windows” said Microsoft engineer Eric Traut during a demonstration of Microsoft’s virtualisation technology at the University of Illinois in October. “It’s not just the OS that’s running on many laptops in this room, it’s also the OS used for media centres, for servers, for small embedded devices.”

As ‘proof of concept’, Traut showed an iteration of MinWin consisting of just 100 system files, which occupied 25MB of hard disk space and ran in 40MB of RAM. “It’s still bigger than I’d like it to be, but we’ve taken a shot at really stripping out all of the layers above and making sure that we had a clean architectural layer there”.

The return of WinFS ?

More speculative is the question of WinFS, which sits atop the NTFS file system to allow data to be stored, accessed and managed based on relationships with other data. WinFS was originally to use the Yukon database engine of SQL Server 2005, which included native support for XML, but became the first of Vista’s many ‘foundation pillars’ to topple -- primarily because Microsoft couldn't get the speed of the system remotely close to something a user would consider acceptable compared to the relatively simpler NTFS file system in use today.

Despite initial promises that it would be released in the year following the launch of Vista, the last news on WinFS was that some of its technologies have been rolled into the Katmai engine of SQL Server 2008. Microsoft may well forge ahead with a relationship-savvy file system in Windows 7, built around the Katmai engine, but the ‘WinFS’ label could remain buried..

A new look.

There’s no doubt that Windows 7.0 will sport a revised interface. It was Sinofky’s winning gamble to give Office 2007 an all-new UI which swapped the decades-old clutter of menus, toolbars, task panes and what-not for a single task-aware ‘ribbon’. Office 2007’s UI overhaul itself was led by Julie Larson-Green, who (as reported earlier this year) Sikofsky has since tapped to head the “User Experience” program for Windows 7.

Will Windows 7 see as radical a facelift as Office 2007? That’s harder to tell, because the change in Office 2007 wasn’t made for change’s sake: Larsen-Green went back to first principles for the suite, and she’s likely to do exactly the same for Windows. Starting with a clean slate, she’ll be asking what people expect their computer to do, and then how an OS should fit in with that. But its safe to say that feral UI elements such as Vista’s ‘icon overload’ Control Panel are not long for this world.

The Chennai Super Kings have beaten Kolkata Knight Riders by 10 wickets as per the D/L method in a storm-hit IPL tie at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on 18.05.2008.

The game came to a halt due to a storm followed by rains when Super Kings were 55 without any loss of wicket in eight overs. According to the D/L method, they were 3 runs ahead of the revised target of 52 runs. Chennai Super Kings openers Stephen Fleming (32) and Parthiv Patel (19) remained unbeaten.

So What is This Duckworth Lewis method or D/L method? Is it a right process to select the winner of a canceled match?

The Duckworth Lewis method or D/L method is a set of formulas and tables created by Frank Duckworth and Tony Lewis. The method was adopted by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 1999 to address the problem of delayed one-day cricket matches for reasons of rain, poor light and floodlight failures although it has also been used in events that have been shortened due to crowd problem, sandstorms and even snowstorms.

Example

A simple example of the D/L method being applied was the first One Day International (ODI) between India and Pakistan in their 2006 ODI series. India batted first, and were all out in the 49th over for 328. Pakistan, batting second, were 7 wickets down for 311 when bad light stopped play after the 47th over.

In this example, Pakistan's target had the match continued was 18 runs in as many balls, with three wickets in hand. Considering the overall scoring rate throughout the match, this is a target most teams would be favored to achieve. And indeed, application of the D/L method resulted in a target score of 304 at the end of the 47th over, with the officially listed result as "Pakistan won by 7 runs (D/L Method)"

Theory

Scoring potential as a function of wickets and overs.
The essence of the D/L method is 'resources'. Each team is taken to have two 'resources' to use to make as many runs as possible: the number of overs they have to receive; and the number of wickets they have in hand. At any point in any innings, a team's ability to score more runs depends on the combination of these two resources. Looking at historical scores, there is a very close correspondence between the availability of these resources and a team's final score, a correspondence which D/L exploits.

Using a published table which gives the percentage of these combined resources remaining for any number of overs (or, more accurately, balls) left and wickets lost, the target score can be adjusted up or down to reflect the loss of resources to one or both teams when a match is shortened one or more times. This percentage is then used to calculate a target (sometimes called a 'par score') that is usually a fractional number of runs. If the second team passes the target then the second team is taken to have won the match; if the match ends when the second team has exactly met (but not passed) the target (rounded down to the next integer) then the match is taken to be a tie.

Application

The D/L method is relatively simple to apply, but requires a published reference table and some simple mathematical calculation (or use of a computer). As with most non-trivial statistical derivations, however, the D/L method can produce results that are somewhat counterintuitive, and the announcement of the derived target score can provoke a good deal of second-guessing and discussion amongst the crowd at the cricket ground. This can also be seen as one of the method's successes, adding interest to a "slow" rain-affected day of play.

Applied to 50 over matches, each team has to face at least 20 overs before D/L can decide the game. In Twenty20 games, each side has to face at least 5 overs.

History

The D/L method was devised by two English statisticians, Frank Duckworth and Tony Lewis, originating from an undergraduate final-year project at the University of the West of England. It was first used in international cricket in the second game of the 1996/7 Zimbabwe versus England One Day International series, which Zimbabwe won by 7 runs, and was formally adopted by the International Cricket Council in 2001 as the standard method of calculating target scores in rain shortened one-day matches.

Various different methods had been previously used to achieve the same task, including run-rate ratios, the score that the first team had achieved at the same point in their innings, and targets derived by totaling the best scoring overs in the initial innings. All of these methods have flaws that are easily exploitable. For example, run-rate ratios do not account for how many wickets the team batting second have lost, but simply reflect how quickly they were scoring at the point the match was interrupted; thus, if a team felt a rain stoppage was likely, they could attempt to force the scoring rate without regard for the corresponding highly likely loss of wickets, skewing the comparison with the first team. Notoriously, the "best-scoring overs" method, used in the 1992 Cricket World Cup, left the South African cricket team requiring 21 runs from one ball (when the maximum score from any one ball is generally six runs). Prior to a brief rain interruption, South Africa was chasing a target of 22 runs from 13 balls - which was difficult but at least attainable - but the possibility of an exciting conclusion to the game was destroyed when the team's target was reduced by only one run, to be scored off 12 fewer balls. The D/L method removes - or at least normalises - this flaw: in this match, the revised D/L target would have been four runs to tie or five to win from the final ball.

Updates

The published table that underpins the D/L method is regularly updated, most recently in 2004, as it became clear that one-day matches were achieving significantly higher scores than in previous decades, affecting the historical relationship between resources and runs.

At the same time as this update, the D/L method was also split into a Professional Edition and a Standard Edition.[5] The main difference is that while the Standard Edition preserves the use of a single table and simple calculation – suitable for use in any one-day cricket match at any level – the Professional Edition uses substantially more sophisticated statistical modeling, and requires the use of a computer. The Professional Edition has been in use in all international one-day cricket matches since early 2004.

Criticism

The D/L method has been criticised based on the fact that wickets are (necessarily) a much more heavily weighted resource than overs, leading to the observation that if teams are chasing big targets, and there is the prospect of rain, a winning strategy could be to not lose wickets and score at what would seem to be a "losing" rate (e.g. if the asking rate was 6.1, it could be enough to score at 4.75 an over for the first 20-25 overs).

Another criticism is that the D/L method does not account for changes in the number of overs during which field restrictions are in place.
More common informal criticism from cricket fans and journalists of the D/L method is that it is overly complex and can be misunderstood.

What is Blog? A Beginners Guide to Blogging

A blog is short for weblog, which simply means a website that is updated frequently with new information and is organized by date and submission. Blogs are typically a way of journalizing information whether it be personal, business, or what have you. It is like an editorial and a journal all mixed together and available online for constant updates and submissions.

As a beginner, you probably want to know more about blogs and why people are using them.

Blogging started out when the Internet was new and the individuals who were technology savvy found it fun and entertaining to post different things they found on the web for other people to visit and enjoy. It caught on quickly and a community of blogs developed, allowing people to read other peoples blogs. As time went on, new technology was developed that allowed even the non-techie to create their own blog and join the blog culture.

Blogs are popular because they relay experiences, interesting thoughts, comments, photos, web links, and plenty of other information that people find interesting. Today, blogging is popular and many people will send you a link to their blog so you can keep up with their experiences such as vacations, studies, pregnancies, and any other thing you can possibly think of.

What started out as a way to navigate the web and figure out all of the newness that was the Internet of the early 90s, turned into a way for people to journalize their experiences, share photos, and keep people up to date on their lives. In response to the popularity of blogs, many websites launched software and free sign-ups for blogs so anyone could have their own blog and share their experiences with the entire world.

And so, blogging has continued to grow and weblogs have multiplied into the millions. In fact, there are so many blogs on the web that you can practically become part of your own community with people worldwide; sharing your life, experiences, and thoughts with people you would never have met. Blogs truly are linking people together and they are an amazing phenomenon.

If you are interested in blogging, all you have to do is join one of the many blog websites that will allow you to set up your own account and have your own blog space on the web, giving you a personal space to share photos, experiences, stories, links, and basically anything else that you care to share. Many people even find that writing blogs are excellent stress relievers and quite cathartic, so you might receive some additional benefits from your blog than just the joy of sharing your personal information. Go online today and find a blog website where you can set up an account and get started!

Essentials List For Franchise Success

This list is based on my experience in the franchise industry, where I saw many franchisees fail because they didn’t have these very important attributes. If you have all these things, congratulations, you’re destined for franchise success!

1. Passion
If you’re not passionate about the business you’re entering into, then you are wasting your time and money. You have to absolutely love the business and everything involved in it, otherwise you simply won’t want to put in the effort required to make it a success. So before you start looking at franchise opportunities, think about yourself and the things you enjoy doing, then base your decisions on that.

2. An open mind
In my experience, someone that already thinks they know everything there is to know will not be a successful franchisee. You need to enter into business with an open mind and a willingness to learn from the experts around you. Also, as simple and clichéd as it sounds, you need to have a positive attitude - rather than seeing challenges as a solid brick wall, view them as a door that can be opened to lead you to new opportunities.

3. Strong financial position
We’re talking about business, so of course money is a factor. If you can only just scrape together enough money to buy the business, then you’re putting yourself in a dangerous position – once you’re behind, it’s hard to catch up. As well as the initial purchase price, you also need to consider running capital to fund your ongoing business operations, because it will be a while before you start making money. There are numerous options for financing a franchise, so make sure you get expert advice before you commit to anything.

4. Basic business skills
There are some basic skills that anyone running a business needs to have, such as day-to-day finance skills, the ability to manage customers and staff and an understanding of business strategy and planning. If you can’t do these basics, you should get help from someone that can teach you or reconsider your decision to buy your own business. Without these skills, you simply won’t be able to run your franchise business, no matter how much support you get from your franchisor.

5. Family support
Buying and running a business is not a solitary thing – it will affect everyone else in your family too. So it’s important that you have their support before you invest in a franchise. Even if you don’t need them to actually help in the running of your business, you will need their moral support and their encouragement to help you succeed, so make sure you involve them in your decision-making and listen to their opinions.

6. Expert advice
When buying a franchise, there are lots of complex financial and legal issues that you will be confronted with during the purchase process and while you’re running your franchise. I strongly recommend that you seek independent professional advice from your accountant and lawyer before you sign any agreements with the franchisor, and then continue to work with these experts when you are running your franchise. If you don’t have a good lawyer and accountant, find one before you start negotiations with a franchisor because you will definitely need their help.

7. Work ethic
This may seem obvious, but if you are lazy and unmotivated then franchising (or running any business for that matter) is not for you! To make your business a success, you will need to work hard and be 100% committed. To really get the most out of your franchise, maximize every opportunity – do extra training, build a strong relationship with your franchisor and do lots of marketing, and you will reap the rewards.

So do you have all of these 7 essentials? If yes, then you’re the ideal candidate for franchise success!
